Dear Sir,

I am very impressed by your organization and your efforts! Simply put, there needs to be more active non-profits such as IRSP in Haiti.

Hello,

I copied and pasted this phrase from your comment: "he [President Obama] has also become the US president on January 20, 2009"

If you look at the time you published this comment and the time Haiti's salvation would depend on a leader like Obama ... only one week has passed. Since your comment is about an article published at an earlier time, I can say that within days of Obama's presidency, we (Haitians) already wanted a president like him.

We could have at least waited for the first 100 days and evaluate the direction of this new administration before concluding that an Obama-like figure would be good for Haiti. This, to me, illustrates why we are where we are in Haiti, we refuse to use logic, the good old scientific methods that we all learned in school, and even common sense.

After 9 months of President Obama's governance, we can say that we have had our own Obama, in the person of President Jean B. Aristide. I may be wrons but it seems to me that both leaders (Aristide and Obama) have the same ideology. It did not work for Haiti. It may work for America. But this is not my main point. I'd like to conclude with my main point by asking a question ... How did we allow ourselves to be so emotional and desire an Obama-like president for Haiti when we did not even know what direction his government will take?

The electorate in Haiti loses all sense of judgment when it comes to elect a president (we go for whoever gives us more "Tafia") ... the historic moment (first black -"1/2 black" - US president was your TAFIA.

Nine months later, (The tafia must be now fully metabolized and eliminated from our system) I hope Mr. Lance Durban (the author of the original article) and Mr. Hyppolite Pierre, the author of the comment I am replying to, will make an assessment of the Obama administration and decide whether or not they still want an Obama-like figure for the highest office in Haiti.

Now you have an opportunity to revisit your articles and convince your readers (and myself) with facts about your desire of an Obama-like president for Haiti.

It is very important to hear that young people like Paola are so aware of the situation and want to make a real change. Hopefully, she could be heard in more and more global webs. Thanks for this publication.

Part of the means to Haitian improvement can indeed be the active participation of its Diaspora which represents in part much of what is often referred to as Haiti's "Brain Drain".
But let us also note that for the past 20 years the 10,000 NGOs working in Haiti have been training and educating Haitians, to only have those Haitians leave in search of work in other countries.

Let's work towards a more progressive and constructive use of funds that meet the need to expand the private sector for job creations and the retention of Haitian talent in Haiti.
